Bose SoundSport Free Review
I'll get straight to the point.
If you're looking for a pair of excellent sounding wireless headphones for either:
Look no further.
This is my experience with the Bose SoundSport Frees.
Bose SoundSport Free Quick Summary
Bose SoundSport Free
Pros and Cons of the Bose SoundSport Free
- Fantastic sound
- Secure fit
- Completely sweat and water resistant
- A little pricey
- Carrying case is a little bigger than I'd like
Impressions - Sound
If you've heard the Bose SoundSport, you will be familiar with the sound. I'm not sure if they use the same drivers or not, but the sound is incredible - forward, slightly bass heavy, impactful, warm and engaging. Perfect for rock / pop / edm or anything where a convincing amount of bass is preferred.
The bass is solid as you'd imagine from a pair of Bose. Low notes are engaging and there is a slight emphasis on the low end, which is absolutely essential for noisy environments and traveling.
Unlike Bose's past reputation of being all lows and highs, these have a pleasantly forward mid-range. Vocals are smooth and clear.
Vibrant while being non-fatiguing. Doesn't trail off like most headphones and retains a crisp sound all the way up to the higher frequencies.
Impressions - Look
I'll let pictures speak for themselves. They're sleek, elegant, and look stunning when paired with workout clothing. As a fashion accessory, they don't look as fancy when dressed up or when traveling, so it depends on your environment.
Impressions - Feel
The Bose SoundSport Free feel a little plasticky. I assume Bose wanted to minimize metal parts on the housing to make the earpieces lighter and more comfortable.
Speaking of comfort, they are definitely among the more comfortable headphones I have worn. This comes naturally as a result of not having cables touching you.
Impressions - Portability
It's difficult to get more portable than being completely wireless. My only gripe is that the carrying case is a little bit bigger than I would have liked. This can't exactly be helped due to the design of the headphones.
With that said, they are extremely light and portable. The only headphones that are more portable are the Apple Airpods.
Impressions - Stability Test
The Bose Soundsport Frees stay in my ears during intense exercise. I've worn them while running on a treadmill, running by the beach, doing squats, deadlifts, bench, overhead press, and sit ups. They are very, very secure.
Ever since the iPhone 7 was released, I wanted to find the perfect pair of wireless headphones to accompany me when doing various tasks, including:
As it turns out, there is no best all-rounder when you want to use them for just about everything. Of the 15-20 wireless headphones I tried, I found that different headphones performed best for different activities.
I eventually settled on the Audio Technica ATH-DSR9BT (review here) for overall sound quality, but there was no way I was going to take out a pair of headphones of that caliber for a run or to the gym.
In 2017, I found the Apple Airpods the most comfortable and enjoyable for studying with.
And as of April 2018, I believe the Bose Soundsport Free is the best headphone for working out.
